Code Enforcement

In case of emergency, like fire, injury, serious illness, accident, or other urgent matter, call 911

Why call Code Enforcement?

Noise, bright lights, street parking, overcrowded residences, unsafe or unsightly property, animal violations, construction concerns, or any issue that disturbs or endangers someone... CALL!

Every area of Big Bear Valley has to abide by a set of regulations that are uniformly enforced and enacted to protect people and property, and to maintain peace and safety. Code Enforcement exists to help!

Our community is better when we care!

If you do not report violations to Code Compliance, there is no record. With reports, repeat violators can be fined, rental licenses revoked, and consequences increased. If you don't report, nothing will change!

As residents, code compliance is a tool we should all use to keep our neighborhoods and this community safe, healthy, and happy for everyone--residents and visitors alike! By ignoring violations, we allow things to happen that diminish the stability and sustainability of Big Bear as a desirable place to live or visit.

Your code compliance complaints are anonymous.

Code enforcement, like so many things in Big Bear Valley, depends where you are!

City of Big Bear Lake

In the City of Big Bear Lake, the Code Compliance hotline is available 24/7 to respond to anything related to codes being violated in any way. Call the officer on duty at 909-866-CODE (2633). This number reaches an answering service that will contact the person listed as responsible for the property, giving them 1 hour in which to resolve the situation. After 1 hour, if the situation is not reasonably resolved, call again.

Big Bear City & Unincorporated County Areas

In all areas outside the limits of the City of Big Bear Lake (Big Bear City, Fawnskin, Baldwin Lake, Sugarloaf, Erwin Lake, Lake William), there are multiple ways to contact San Bernardino County Code Enforcement.

For issues related to short-term rentals, call the 24/7 hotline at (888) 399-8591.

For issues related to short-term rentals that need immediate response (like late-night noise complaints), you might

need to call 911 to get a Sheriff to take action since Code Enforcement operates during

regular business hours. **You need to also call and leave a message on the Code hotline

so it is properly logged into the system.

For issues not related to short-term rentals, call the main number during business hours

8 AM-5 PM Mon-Fri at (909) 884-4056

County Code Enforcement is part of Land Use Services, open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. From the county website: "Code Enforcement administers programs designed to protect the public's safety, welfare, and property value through enforcement of San Bernardino County ordinances and State/Federal laws relating to land use, zoning, housing, public nuisances and vehicle abatement within the unincorporated areas of the County."

For all issues that do not require an immediate response, use the online complaint form or the SBCode app,

which is free to download on all platforms. From the app, you can take photos of issues,

submit a description, and link to an exact location. Get it for Apple  Android

The issue will be investigated and dealt with during business hours.
